We chose Los Angeles for Music Tectonics because of its booming music and tech scenes. We’re hosting our opening reception at Warner Music’s beautiful new downtown headquarters so out-of-towners get a taste of L.A.’s thriving record label business. Thank you to our supernova sponsor Hydric for supplying wine, beer, and tacos, alongside Flying Embers’ hard kombucha for a special Southern Cali seismic flavor.

The Skirball Cultural Center is located in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains, just off the 405. The 15-acre campus sits on a wooded hillside and blends beautiful architecture with a reflecting pool, courtyards, and walkways, creating a perfect destination for networking, learning, and doing business. Plan your lodging and transportation in advance to ensure an efficient trip.
Music Tectonics includes a stunning “Epicenter” room where morning coffee, lunch, and the closing reception will take place. This is the spot to hang for meetings and impromptu connections. We have an intimate dozen plus exhibitors and music making demos for you to try out.
There are three general sessions during the day:
Mark Mulligan’s opening keynote at 9:45 am
The Blockchain Cagematch: Enthusiasts and Skeptics Duke it Out, with Referee Arabian Prince (NWA) at 2:15 pm
A.I.’s Got Talent: An Artificial Talent Show with emcee Dani Deahl at 5:15 pm
There are a dozen additional breakout sessions and panels to choose from. Log into the schedule page on our website to build your own schedule (and to help us select the right room for each session).
LODGING
If you are coming from out of town, we recommend you book your lodging right away. We are able to offer discounted rooms to the two closest hotels to the Skirball, but they are going fast. You might also be able to find an AirBnB or VRBO convenient to the conference location. The advantage of staying near the Skirball is to avoid traffic in the morning, and it is located between Silicon Beach and Downtown LA. Our room block at Hotel Angeleno ($169/night) is a ten minute ride share from the Skirball. It also has a rooftop bar with a stunning view. Here is a link to the hotel info. If the room block is full, email conference@musictectonics.com right away and we will ask to expand the room block.
GETTING YOUR BADGE
You’ll need a badge to get into the pre-conference, opening reception and all Skirball events. Beat the rush and come to the Monday pre-conference at 12:45 pm to get your badge and trading cards. But you can also check in onsite at the Warner Music opening reception or from 9-10 am on Tuesday at the Skirball. Get to the Skirball early and you’ll be able to grab coffee and start meeting the exhibitors.
WHAT’S WITH THE TRADING CARDS?
We hired a smashing young illustrator and a fabulous graphic designer to create a limited edition set of Trading Cards only available to conference attendees. The 18 cards outline seismic shifts that are changing the music industry as a result of innovation and technology. Attendees will get a card pack with their registration but to get the full set, you will need to trade with colleagues throughout the event. Attendees who attend the pre-conference will get a jumpstart with dedicated networking time to start building their set. Power Tip: Visit the exhibitors in the Epicenter to complete your set even faster.
WHAT TO BRING?
Business cards
Product demos on a mobile device
Your pitch for spontaneous moments
Comfortable shoes
A water bottle
A snack (we will feed you lunch and heavy evening hors d’oeuvres, but the onsite food cart is only open 11:30 am - 4:30 pm, so eat breakfast before you arrive)
Phone charger and battery backup
